Takuma Nakahira
In this project, I was tasked in creating a poster for an aritst that is no longer with us. Earlier this year I visited the Art Institute of Chicago where I learned about Japanese artist and photographer Takuma Nakahira. As a photographer, Nakahira continually theorized and challenged the idea of what a photographer and a photograph is. He explored the idea photography challenging and expanding language and ideas. His works were crucial and symbolic of protest and activism in post-war Japan. Throughout his life, Nakahira was a writer, political activist, photography theorist and above all, an artist.
In this poster, I use similar ideas and photos from his work "Circulation: Date, Place, Events" while also showcasing some of his work that symbolized protest and activism in post-war Japan.

Iterations
While designing this poster I explored different ideas and designs that led to the final product. In Circulation, I wanted to display some of Nakahira's work in a similar style to his own Ciriculation. In my first iteration, I combined two of his photos from "Circulation" but did not contain any of his other works outside of "Circulation". It was then I combined both of these ideas to make the final product.
