In the future, reduced amount of the land, drought and cities enlarging is becoming a global crisis. In attempt to prevent mass starvation, we have to find an alternative for land crops. Currently continents surface is 149 m km2, 36% of it are tied to agricultural area. Oceans surface is 361 m km2. What if we use water resources?
What will we eat in 2050? What if we eat mostly algae? Future lunchbox is a project which hypothesize that in the future, people will eat products mostly based on algae. Projects shows how we could cultivate algae in massive production. It contains modular system for oceans use and shows the variety of food made with algae. Algae farming could become the world's biggest cropping industry. It would be a big bonus with land and fresh water in increasingly short supply.
Each hexagonal module has 5m long diameter. It has 5 stages of use, starting with empty, then filled, first with micro algae, then with ocean water. During the cultivation time module size goes to 2m high. Hexagons can be form in groups.
