Jakdojade is popular Polish website and mobile application for all people travelling with public transport in Poland. There you can find routes, timetables and maps and build your best route for moving inside the city.
The task was to create new icons set of pulic transport for mobile app. Firstly, I started with research about what public transport you can find in biggest Polish cities and how is it looks like.
The main public transport in Polish cities are trams and buses. But for example in Warsaw you can take metro train, in Gdansk – urban train or waterbus, in Sopot – trolleybus. Most popular models of vehicles you can see below:
I checked most popular vehicles around the Europe too. London, Berlin, Paris, Bordeaux:
Usually I start my work with sketches, but this time I didn't. I choosed tram icon as experimental one and just started to draw directly in vector. Below you can see first drawings of it. On a meeting with client we'd chosen one mix of few options of front view. Here you can see also the side view of tram – this idea was inspired by bus- and tram-stop signs you can meet in Poland and Ukraine.

With clients we decided that side view is interesting fresh idea and nice way for experiment, so for the next step I created 2 sets of icons: side-view inspired by stop signs and classic front-view icons.

Process of creation
Finally we made a decision, that side-view is very fresh and uncommom option, but that was a reason why we declined it. Application is very popular in Poland, it has 3 mln of users. Most probably radical changes like that could be dramatic for a large number of people.
Option with front view was chosen as the main one. After few corrections it was included in new update of Jakdojade application. Now you can see my icons in app for Android.
