This infographic describes how different species of plants have evolved to survive in wildfire-prone California. The design features six different plants with unique evolutionary adaptations to fire. Because this project was intended for the general public, I decided to illustrate each plant in a more abstract style by sculpting each plant from watercolor paper and setting them on fire.
After videotaping the burning process, I edited the film in Photoshop to create a looping animation. The final GIFs are composed of flames from many different stages of the film, pieced together and color-corrected to appear as if all of the paper pieces were burning at the same time.
