Here are two six-page spreads that graphically represent the lives and personalities of two different sixth graders at Hunter College Elementary School: Maria, who loves being active and wants to travel the world; and Isabella, an artist and aspiring designer. I consulted with both kids extensively as to what each wanted in her pages; the end results combine the explicit details, images, and objects that the girls wanted and my more abstract translations of the feelings I interpreted when getting to know them.
