José Eduardo Sánchez's profile

DUT16 / Formula Student Team Delft

As a team of students from the Delft University of Technology, we designed, built and raced an electric formula-style car. Our team comes together every year to construct the best electric race car we can: a truly cutting-edge piece of automotive engineering! After the design and assembly process, we participate in prestigious international competitions with other university teams from around the world

The DUT16 is a very lightweight, high performance, four wheel driven electric race car. The  aerodynamics have been taken to a new level with the DUT16. This car produces so much downforce that we were able to achieve 3.5 G's while cornering, about as much as a GP2 car! We won formula student Spain with this incredible car.

My primary responsibility was aerodynamic design. Specifically the design and development of the vehicle’s aerodynamic package, including concept, benchmarking, NURBS modelling, ideation based on CFD, prototyping, mould design and composite manufacturing. Also, I was involved in the development of our carbon fibre 3d printed steering wheel, and was responsible for the racing livery and visualization.
