Mapping Communication Design on the Web

Studies and researches regarding design keep growing and increasingly spreading in every country. Design world is evolving together with the fast-changing technologies and it is expanding not only in geographical terms but it is extending its horizons among new domains, merging with different and new disciplines. ____Communication design in particular, always connected with the world of information, can only be one of the design areas most sensitive and receptive to these changes. That’s why Communication design finds online a fertile ground for new developments. The main goal of this thesis project is to map a complex system in order to develop a new exploration model, referred to a crucial area for the discipline: the web. ____The project wants to explore this area through the observation of some online environments and using digital, statistical and representative methods. The analysis was conducted through the parallel exploration of four significant areas for a first mapping of the online sphere. The exploration wants to make it explicit and observable what Communication design has become today. It aims to screenshot the state of the art, the roads that it’s taking, in order to understand where and how it is developing. It is therefore a digital research that observes what designers look at, what they daily interact with to have an online visibility. ____The attempt is to make this complex reality visible through the construction of a reference tool available to teachers, students and associations, in Italy and abroad, that could lead to new reflections regarding the discipline and profession nowadays, in order to give a contribution to the specific area of the experimental research in this field.
