Exploring my Hamilton Neighbourhood

The presented street photography series illustrates the different interactions and attractions that exist and occur in Hamilton’s Westdale, a popular neighbourhood for families as well as a hub for students. The photographs included within this series display that Westdale is a neighbourhood largely dominated by students as they walk home from school, wait at the bus stops, and enjoy visiting the many local coffee shops. Furthermore, the collection also promotes many of Westdale’s popular spots, exhibiting, the Westdale Theatre, My Dog Joe, Take Note, Westdale Bumblebean, Pierik’s Cycle, and the student favourite grocery store, Food Basics. The assemblage of photographs is intended to show that regardless of all that Westdale has to offer, it is, for the most part, still lifeless. The students who inhabit this neighbourhood shuffle through their daily routine without embracing their surroundings, rather they are more focused on getting to and from where they need to be.
