Once used as a hospital for “Moral and Mental defectives” in the Norfolk area; closed down by the NHS in 1990, Hales Hospital has been left to the wiley hands of nature ans vandals. This piece explores the history behind this abandoned and crumbling building. The piece has extended out from an initial explore around an abandoned structure, into an in depth research project into the buildings history and the stories that lay within its walls. Greatly influenced by Catherine Yass and Ross Ashton, the piece combines archival documents, negative imaging and projections to create an abstract narrative telling the story of a former workhouse,hospital and asylum with a sense of unease that still resonates through the hospital empty corridors today.
