Florida Moving Image Archives - Event Poster / Proposal

This project was class assigned. The goal was to meet with members of The Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives and to find a way to get a larger student audience to know who they are, what they do and offer, and to attend their events.
I decided to create a poster promoting their REWIND! Historic Screenings event using a collage I made from the images I got from their Archive Collection and created an assortment of graphics to attract and guide the viewer's eyes.

I also proposed an adaptation or change to their current logo as I believed it to be a out dated; to be quite frank.

The original logo consisted of a tattered and torn filmstrip (which I thought it was another state.. New York) in background, the monitor calibration colors on a monitor with Florida projecting out on top.

In the final version you'll see I decided to rid the logo of the image of Florida, create an acronym (FMIA) for the Archives' and laid it upon a horizontal tattered filmstrip displaying the monitor calibration colors. The organization name and parent company I placed to right of the proposed logo.
Other than the poster and logo change proposal, I proposed an introduction of a new event, "A Walk Down Memory Lane." This event in plan would retain to the scope of the original student audience but pushes further to also draw in attention of those students who may have elder family members who have had their part, their share in Florida's history and would like to take that a walk down memory lane while sharing that time with their student family member.

Establishing this event would shine a strong light onto their platform as they are a non-profit organization that only acquires it films and assets through donations. In the past they have promoted and strongly catered to drawing in just the student audience, and those who have stumbled onto their collections, however, I believe that if you invite a student who could appreciate the history, and invite their elder who has lived through that history, that you can then strike a 3 way bond. A bond between the student and elder family member, a bond between student and the Archives', and the elder and the Archives'. Chances are that if the event creates a memorable experience for both audiences, they will both be more inclined to come back to Archives' next event. They will be more inclined to spread the word about the experience of the Archives', and who knows, opening up the doors to a new audience might just open the doors for a whole lot more donations, licensed use and application of footage, and new clients.
