PIAZZA DELLA SCALA Lighting Concept

Piazza della Scala in Milan is an important square of the city centre where it's placed the most important theatre of the city: the Teatro alla Scala, of course.
One of the first impression you have entering the square nowadays, is the contrast between what you expect from such an important historical place in Milan, and the real anonymous feeling that you percieve. This perception is enphasized by the main surrounding areas of Milan's center (piazza del Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II) which are increased in value thanks to the light. So this project wants to integrate the square into the contest and also give much more importance to this beautiful site with a scenographic effect using different scenes of light.

The idea is to create a sort of Exterior Theatre where the three surrounding historical buildings (Palazzo Beltrami, Palazzo Marino, Palazzo della Banca commerciale) are considered as a theatre gallery, the square as the parterre and the Theatre itself as the stage.
Furthermore, this metaphor is also recalled in three lighting scenes: a general one for everynight, an Entrance scene (like the opening of the stage courtain) when there's a show during the theatre season , and an Exit scene (closing of the stage courtain).
