PERTH CREATIVES GIVE IMMORTAL LIFE TO FLOWERS IN DRAMATIC EXHIBITION
From the creative pairing of floral designer Alicia Lowe and interior and architecture photographer Dion Robeson comes These Don’t Die, a dramatic photographic exhibition which transports living flowers to immortal status.
The series of 15 images, with limited edition print releases, merges Dion’s eye for photographic detail with Alicia’s ingrained talent for creating sculptural arrangements.
The result is a collection of moody yet vibrant images which capture the lush floral curations in their prime moment of existence.
Dion embraced the low key lighting technique synonymous with paintings of the Renaissance and Baroque periods to give the images a three dimensional element.
“I was inspired by the impressive amount of fine art photography on my recent trip to Europe,” Dion says.
“On my return I started to research low key lighting for a different take on shooting florals.
“Alicia was taking amazing photos of arrangements on her phone and posting them on Instagram, getting so much positive feedback in the process that her followers wanted to buy her images as prints.”
The duo brings with them a wealth of passion and experience from their creative fields.
Acclaimed floral designer Alicia has been immersed in the industry since the age of 15, purchasing her first store at 21.
The last few years has seen Alicia create The Wildflower Perth floral engineer, creating works for luxury weddings and events, being showcased on the nation’s top online wedding blogs, and now taking part in her first exhibition.
"I wanted to make that transition from "shop girl" to creating something unique, eclectic, and emotion driven works of art,” Alicia says.
"I am recognised for mashing many different forms, textures and varieties together, people get to enjoy for a week or two, then it's all over.
"Dion and I have thrown ideas around for quite some time; once he was back from Europe, within a couple of months we found ourselves in a studio shooting these don't die."
Dion is a highly regarded interior and architectural photographer, working with award-winning creatives across Perth.
His images have been featured in top magazines including Houses, Belle and Vogue Living.
