Chris Bottari's profile

Communist Propaganda.

This process started with me listening to "10 Hours of Soviet Orchestra Music" on blast in my studio while doodling wildly on a pad of paper. Something has always drawn me to Cold War era propaganda images, and thus this series was born. I have always felt that propaganda is an important vehicle for communication of concepts. During WWII, propaganda was easy recognizable, as it was during the Cold War era. I aim to emphasize the qualities of post-war propaganda, both sociopolitical and borderline satirical.
"Communism in Red: Equality for All". Graphic Print. Original 12" x 18"
Here the main focus is on the red since it was a principal color in the Soviet Bloc. Red is important because it is a color that asserts power and dominance. In printing, red has a tendency to bleed and affect the integrity of the colors around it, and sometimes it is overpowering. The raised hands are meant to symbolize the masses that were so eager for change that they reached out and seized what they thought was going to change their lives for the better. Currently, this series is a work in progress and will be continually updated until the set is complete.
