Ply-split braiding is a technique where one twisted cord passes through another twisted cord or cords splitting the plies of the latter cords. This technique has been used for centuries in north-west India and parts of Pakistan, to make traditional camel belts using natural fibers and animal hair.
This project opened us up to this technique and made us experiment and work on the basic levels of this technique with gradually proceeding towards the complexity of the same.
These works are a result of a workshop held by Erroll Pires at the Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
