I was commissioned to create a piece based on Blacksmithing, which is the clients passion. The piece was originally to be A3 though during the design process it doubled in size. The piece depicts a busy square area of town, where blacksmithing is the main activity and industry. The town itself is very well known across the lands for it's supreme smithing traditions and the skills of the masters whose forge fires have long burned within the town walls. The work they craft draws strangers from from all across the land to the town. In this scene, we see but a glimpse of this bustling busy steaming town, crowded lanes full of hissing steam, the clanging of hammers and glow of the fires. I hope you enjoy the following images which begin with a collection of initial sketches and runs through to the finished piece. Now, there's two many images for me to bother putting captions on, so I'll shut up and let you discover the many little details and curious characters that mill about the scene. c:
The piece is A2 in size: 42 x 59cm, and was made with pencils, fineliner pens and watercolours on watercolour paper.
This was my last piece of 2016, completed just before Christmas.
