Expectations deals with the many expectations adolescents feel that they have on them. They need to fit in, be good in school, be sociable, be beautiful and in general be as perfect as they possibly can. This wall is an image of all the expectations that are shooting towards the adolescent. However, as the viewer can be on both sides of the wall this project also questions if it is not in fact the adolescent that expect her surroundings to have expectations of her. This duality of the issue is the reason why I crated an installation as it allows the viewer to be self-reflective, who is the shooter and who is the victim. I was inspired by Tara Donavan’s installation with Styrofoam cups and by Yaoi Kusama’s infinity rooms and net paintings. Donavan’s installation and Kusama’s net paintings inspired me to work further with the circular pattern that I created in the Breast project. Kusama’s infinity rooms inspired me to include the viewer in the work, as shown in the supporting photos taken by Johan Bill. These photographs display how the installation includes the viewer, in this case the model and how the dynamic structure of the rubber tubes and cardboard tubes creates a dynamic pattern on the model. This emphasises the idea that expectations are not always as we expect them to be but they can be complicated and ambiguous.
