Daily UX Day #9 Stove Controls

Interview:

When you first got your stove how did you know how to use it?
I tried each botton.. try and error..

Did you got it right the first time?
No

Did you learn which control belong to each burner quickly?
No, I think I spent like a whole week getting it wrong.

What did you feel when you used your stove for the first time?
Confusion, I didn't know what was I suppose to press or turn. It was pretty and it seemed easy but I didn't read the instructions I just tried until I got it right.

What do you think its wrong or what would you change?
Maybe I would arrange the buttons in the same way as the burners so I would identify which is which.

Would you mind if the controls occupy more space in your kitchen board?
Hmmm yes, I am used to them being infront of the stove instead of on the side.

Who uses the stove?
All the family

What has been your experience with the controls?
Hmm my husband struggle the same time I did trying to get the right button. My kids usually as for help to when they are going to cook something.

Proposal:

Stove with burners painted that show which burner goes with which control depending on the color.

For the stoves that are already being used there could be a color hook that can be attached to each burner and a color stick for each control that correspond to the burner.

It is easy to understand and the controls can be arranged in any place of the stove without occupying much space.
