Brand Creation (name + logo + tag-line)


This was a very big project. As co-founder, together with Stanley Chan and Euan Roberts, we; developed, came up with the name, logo and tag line for the Online and Real life gallery we were creating. 

This project started under the name of 'Union' but as a patron of outsider art and young creatives, the name OTHER felt a better fit. Furthermore, we were looking to be using digital platforms in a different way; using the digital world as a means to expand the real world for our users. Creating real life communities through digital engagement. The name felt disruptive and slightly hidden, with the black and white colouring to emphasize it. The almost brutal, but accessibly spaced out wording were further used to convey this contrast of familiar and foreign. 

The three dots were used to represent the three areas of creativity we aimed to be working with; Art, Literature and Film. It's simplicity matched the black and white tone, and the feeling of independence of each dot while also the interlocking nature of the arts through their shared shape of a triangle. Each dot represents a sub brand of OTHER (OTHERFilms, OTHERArt, OTHERWords) and together the triangle represents OTHER.

The Tag Line was designed to sound almost biblical in tone, with an expansive/progressive in direction. Something that also maintained a feeling of mystery, but also represented the emerging artists we were representing. Something dangerous and yet exciting. 

The choice of black and white was also chosen to be under-stated but powerful. It was also used as we aimed to be the platform from which creatives can create, share and exhibit their work.
