This assignment will focus on the use of a typographic grid as it is applied in publication design and book design. I had previously used a simple grid in a single page/spread layout such as posters, and a magazine—however for this project I used a complex typographic grids that included margins which mark boundaries for typographic elements; grid modules that assist me in placing type and image; columns and the intervals of space between them (gutters) that accommodate text settings; spacial zones that help organize the various parts of information; and flow lines that establish a dominant alignment for elements and text. Grids make a designer’s job easier by helping arrange typographic elements in an intelligible order. The grid structure allows for a logical hierarchy of information to be established making text much more accessible to the reader.
