Challenge # 7:  Design the perfect backpack!

For this challenge I interviewed a dear friend that uses her backpack almost everyday.

Interview transcription:

How many backpacks do you own and why? One cause I used to have only bags instead of backpacks but since I carry heavy books they didn't last long.

Why did you buy that backpack?
Because I the straps seemed strong and I just liked it.

What do you carry inside?
Mainly heavy books, sometimes my laptop or iPad.

If you carry heavy books why don't you use a wheeled bag?
They look uncomfortable besides no one uses them.

Are there any pockets on your backpack?
Yes, inside there is one where I put my laptop or iPad. Outside it has two on the sides and one in the front.

What do you keep on those pockets?
On the two side pockets I try to fit in my water bottle but it is really difficult. In the front pocket I carry my glasses, phone and wallet.

What do you love or hate about your pockets?
I like the front pocket because I can access everything quickly. I hate the side pockets because my bottles never fit in.

Since when do you have your backpack?

Is it waterproof?
I haven't tested.. Ive been very careful with this backpack. I usually left my bags on the floor and the bottom ripped but I carry this one all the time and try to take the best care.

Why did you picked that color?
I liked it.. There was a black version but I liked this one the most. I thought it was going to get dirty quickly because it has white stripes but it hasnt..so.. I guess I chose right.

After the interview I created a persona to represent my friends needs and desires.

Persona:
Then I wrote some of the characteristics that the backpack should have and asked for feedback.

I wrote on 4 post-its the main characteristics the proposal should include after asking the user and discussing which were the most important.

I made some sketches to represent some of the ideas that could be implemented on Anne's backpack.

Material proposal for straps: Ripstop or ballistic nylon.
I will meet my friend next week to receive feedback on the sketches and continue developing the proposal... :)
