For Fun
Stuff nobody asked me to do
Stuff made mainly for the fun of it.
Because I just wanted to try my hand at a certain style,
because I wanted something for framing and hanging on my wall,
to give as a gift, for selling at Zazzle, or just because.

An antique-looking yerba label (imaginary brand).
In former times, labels like this used to come stuck on yerba maté packs.
The intent was picturesque and pleasing, but the result always looked
like a product of popular art, often with a cheap or kitsch edge.
An Art Déco tiling pattern with running and leaping deer…
A “G” which I made into an acrylic wall decoration.
The style was lifted directly from that of a Victorian alphabet
of which I couldn’t find the G!
Found an O, however, so I recreated the missing character.
A poster loosely based in a mid–sixties poster by Dan X. Solo.
A mural I made for my living room, based on a silkscreen print by Eyvind Earle.
This design was printed on canvas and then framed.
I’m pretty sure Earle used gold on the original print, which I couldn’t use here.

A typographic study on engrossing.
“Relax” kitty—another study on psychedelic–era graphics.
A take on Art Nouveau.
This design was made into a mousepad—the mouse would act as a planchette.
Scarlet macaw and chic birdcages.
The “monito del monte” (Dromiciops gliroides)
smelling the fruits of the quintral vine (Tristerix corymbosus),
in Southern Chile.
A different version for the Argentine side of the habitat of his little marsupial.
Over there the fruits of the monito’s favorite vine tend to stay green as they ripen,
so I added some quintral flower buds for color.
Christmas cards
A simple Christmas card, with a Pampean theme.
A very geek Christmas card:
“Did you know that holly and yerba maté are closely related?”.

Yet another Christmas card.
This one suggested replacing the traditional fir tree with an ombu tree
(huge South American tree which in popular Argentine culture is emblematic of the Pampas)
on the grounds that there's no need to put it up and under its canopy there's room for tons of presents.
The contour of the tree was die–cut, so it would pop up on opening the card.
A Christmas card with reindeer-capybaras and their smaller cousins,
the wild guinea pigs (plus some firebugs).
Thanks for the visit!
