It happened on this day - Typography

On this day the first democratic electionoccurred in South Africa. Apartheid died on this day and freedom is found i.e."Freedom Font". In context the focus of this ISTD is on the direct experience in the neverending election row and the freedom rights this day brought to all the people in SouthAfrica.

The format of the book communicates thatapartheid is something of the past by folding the book open. Freedom isfounded by Nelson Mandela as the first black president in the history of SouthAfrica. The format of the book communicate apartheid is something of the past by folding the book open.  Freedom is found by Nelson Mandela as the first black president in the history of South Africa.  On this day his party ANC won the election.   The book itself starts at 07:00 of this day as idication of the progression of this day.  When one page through the book to midnight a part of the format extends just like the election extended in 1994 till the 29th of April.

The layout of the type on each page communicates the experience of a man's experience in the row the whole day through and the progression.  At the top of each double page under time it translates this man's experience.   The information in the layout describes the fredom rights this day brought. 

Typographically the font used during the apartheid part of the book is thin and shy typeface - emphasizing the shyness of the situation and it is a part that's hidden with.  Bold typefaces is used in the freedom part translating the bold stand that Nelson Mandela and other freedom fighters took to fight for equal rights.  Today all South Africans have equal bold rights.
