Urban Native

Urban Native is a engineered yardage designs for Aranya Natural, a Natural dyeing unit in Munnar. The project was to introduce woven products for the organisation who are primarily experts of Natural dyeing and shibori resist techniques. It is a continuation of Interwoven paths project. The aim was to identify weavers and build long term collaboration that would be mutually beneficial.

Inspired from the urban tribes with bold and saturated elements yardage designs were focused on creating textured fabrics with good drapability. The fabrics were required to be medium to lightweight. A rhythm warp was selected for weaving fabrics that could cater to engineered placement on garments. The designs collectively offer a range of self textured, bold stripes and checks with simple plain vertical stripes. Multiple designs were woven from a single by utilising the available techniques and possibilities. Each design is combined with an idea of fabric placement where one could use a portion of the yardage or as a whole with different methods.
