Service Design Student Group Project
J.Atkinson & Co. has long been a focal point of trading within Lancaster City, UK,existing since 1837. However, modernization is necessary in both businessand society. In other words, as the city modernizes, it is vital for J.Atkinson &Co. business to modernize alongside this to both remain competitive and toincrease this competitiveness.
Based on the existing opportunities that Lancaster can offer, together withthe J. Atkinson & Co current business model that aims to be a coffee centre ofLancaster City we decided to focus on service environment, service design andvisitor economy and city branding. Our project identified J.Atkinson & Co.’shistory combined with the rich Lancaster heritage assets, in order to createdestinations of the highest quality. We came up with The Atkinsons Triangleidea that provides the required business model to modernise the business inline with Lancaster’s aims as a city.
