"CPCC: Its Legacy and Promise"
History Book Cover
I designed this cover for Central Piedmont Community College's upcoming book that gathers college history from 1993 to 2013. My cover design was the one picked amongst my classmates' to be actually used as the real cover. The book probably won't come out until the end of 2012 or beginning of 2013, but I am already really excited to see it printed!
I chose the Aspire sculpture in front of the Overcash Building in the Central Campus as the main focus of the cover for a couple of reasons:
I did not want to put one of the campus buildings on the cover since that's what a look of colleges do when making books like these and, besides, readers will be able to see pictures of all the buildings on the inside of the book.
I also wanted to convey a more personal and human feel about the book. One of the things the writer told us was that the book was going to be more than just about the history of the development of the buildings and the campuses; it was really all about the people that have worked hard to make the college what is it today.
Thirdly, but most importantly, 2013 marks CPCC's 50th Anniversary. This is a big deal that should not be glazed over. So I decided to do something to celebrate this anniversary and to make the book stand out like a special edition. For that, my proposal to the project managers was to print the book cover in two colors: black and metallic ink in gold (it's the 50th after all!). The end sheets would be printed all in gold metallic ink. No wonder they loved it!
