For the fourth consecutive year, the Section of young Architects' Association (DAZ) in the event 'Season urbanism' conducted by the Croatian Association of Architects (CAA), is organizing an interdisciplinary workshop Akupunktua city. It is a project which was designed by architect Rene Morrison and Kristina Emperor, which brings together students and young professionals (under 35) from different disciplines (architecture, building, art, design). The aim of the workshop, which this year was related to the theme area of the Student Center, was through an interdisciplinary discussion to align the perception of space and create a series of small, precise and feasible intervention.
Talking with SC (Student Center) users, problem of signaling is imposed by itself. Getting lost within the complex, and the lack of space to the east entrance of SC were obvious problems whose solution could simulate a lower action on the spot. Taking the asphalt as a medium and as such is dominant in the whole space and which further emphasizes the impression of under-utilization of the SC as the old, monotonous and gray space, use it for urban signaling has emerged as a logical solution. Difficult communication with customers, and their inability to influence the natural movement towards the eastern entrance to justify further intervention.
Setting pictograms that indicate the most important buildings in the complex, and signal arrows that lead to the same, used the natural movement of users within the complex, in that way the information was planted. All sign elements are visible enough that users do not have to invest additional efforts in order to perceive the information - were created so that they are not too small, so users do not have to bend down, nor too large, so they don't have to move further away to see what lies ahead of them.
Also, arrow element, with its imposing size and response to the question of what would be the distance between them, should help users successfully perceived direction of motion - they need to be on the tarmac as densely distributed along marked routes, and in a way that they are one above the other, provided that each mirror the other side of the arrow prior to simulating the way the traces of human feet. Signal arrows and icons are sprayed on asphalt over the stencils. Elements are sprayed with a bright yellow spray, because it is the best point on the gray asphalt surface, and thus the direction of movement more visible and easier to follow with greater distance.
