Illustration/Poster created for a double feature showcase by the bands SMARTINI and THE DIRTY COAL TRAIN, at the IN BRAGA HOSTEL, organized by the project PORTA 253.

General concept: With to bands to draw to/from I decided to go with an old movies feel, double-feature like poster. They are rock bands, and are somehow linked to sci-fi/cinematic themes, it just felt right.

THE DIRTY COAL TRAIN concept: I made a f****ing dirty coal train. This one was quite a no-brainer. I've also put a skull in front of it because, you know, it always looks cool, and of course transmits the 'punk-ish' feeling of the band. Besides that, there's also a white flag with an "x", which is a reference to their latest music video.

SMARTINI concept: this was my starting point. I haven´t drew anything for quite a while but after I saw this band's latest single videoclip I felt the urge to get back into illustration

So I took the the image of a little kid dressed in an animal suit, as shown in the mentioned video, and joined it with this idea, originated in the band's name, of a guitar drowned in a martini glass.

Once this group is coming from a ten year hiatus I guess there lots and lots of meanings to be retrieved from this drawing, but I just thought it would look cute - and I was damn right.
