Flora & Fauna Packaging Design Project

Flora & Fauna
Project Overview
The high-end Greek natural cosmetics company 'Flora & Fauna' is in the process of rebranding their core range to appeal to a younger audience. They would like the new designs to be feature modern, botanical illustrations to represent the raw, natural ingredients that they use within their product range. The client would like to see an initial design which they would potentially roll out across a larger product range (if they like what they see!) They are looking for the designs to take inspiration from the Flora and Fauna of the Greek islands that the products are made from.

To complete the brief, the client would like you to create one shampoo bottle design and a wrapping paper pattern, to use across soap packaging. Think about the different elements you would like to use and aim to make it appealing for a younger, more modern market.

To start with, choose some striking key colours for the brand and lock down an illustrative style. To spark some inspiration, research the types of traditional ingredients, wildlife and plants used on a greek island and have fun with it!!! Remember, these designs will need to be mocked up on some beautiful bottles, which will allow the client to imagine the brand and how it could be developed in the future into a larger product range. Keep your designs nice and simple, remember to also upload your initial sketches and enjoy the process!!
Here is a range of Flora & Fauna shampoos (plus bar soaps and 1 lotion) with the same background but with different colors. The logo I wanted to keep a simple dirty hello/gold gradient but also feature some vine leaves and a goat, which are found in the Greek Islands. As I was designing, I realized that the patterns for the packaging design is not really "modern". So, I decided to group all of my illustrations together and lower the opacity to about 7-10% (depending on how light or dark the background color is). I didn't want to clutter the design so I left a lot of open space in the center of the shampoo bottle. As for the soap boxes, the front of the box is the more detailed part of it and the rest the other sides of the corners will be one solid color with basic information on it (ingredients, description etc.)
Here is the traced illustrations at 100% opacity. As I was doing my research, I found a list of many flowers found in the Greek islands. I included poppy, lavender and orchids in my design. As for the ingredients, I found that mint, lemon and olive oil are amongst choices for seasoning greek food (plus other herbs and spices). The main reason why I only chose those three was because they have a nice fragrance to it.
Here is the lower opacity design with a background color behind the illustrations.
Shampoo bottle design. The gradient of the Flora & Fauna logo makes it pops out against the background. It is very eye-catching, especially when it is on top of the colorful, patterned background.
As you can see more clearly, I kept my design consistent by adding the illustrated  images on both sides of the bottle above the text.

To make it more appealing to the younger audience, I used colorful background colors and tried to make the the logo pop against the colors. If a young person saw this on the shelf in stores, I'm sure the colors will immediately draw their attention, especially since not a lot of shampoo brands use a lot of eye-popping colors.
