Ocean Awareness Poster Series

This poster series was created to raise awareness for the destruction of our sea life and oceans. I used a pastiche of the Atelier Populaire’s French protest posters from the late 60’s. These posters were made cheaply and quickly, with simple shapes and mainly one color per poster. They printed many copies on a printing press, therefore many of the prints were imperfect, smudged, and had a unique look compared to the rest. In order to accomplish a pastiche of those posters, I made sure to incorporate all of those aspects into my posters. By creating a "ghost print" in the background i was able to emphasize the pollution of plastic and paper waste in our oceans, as well as emphasize the printmaking process. I hand made all the typography, making it imperfect to give the illusion it had quickly been carved into a wood block. At the bottom of each poster is a website so the viewer can learn more about preventing pollution in our oceans.
