Southern Man is an animated music video for Tom Rosenthal's song under the same title.
The story is based on the lyrics - it is a metaphore of loneliness and alienation. It deals with childhood memories and the way our lives intertwine with the cycle of nature.

After a couple of very kind e-mails we've exchanged with Mr Rosenthal, we begun the actual work...

The animation was hand-drawn on a graphic tablet. However, we have done most of the sketches and studies on paper before moving on to the digital media.

We've decided to restrict our palette to four colours only.
The animation is drawn in 12 fps – twelve frames per second. One second of the video consists of twelve drawings.

Our goal was to show a peculiar point of view of someone deeply connected to nature. We've build a desolate landscape, in which nature might be your only companion. One of the key elements in depicting this strange ambience is showing the movement of wind. We took great care in observing and animating this particular type of motion.
