ttDrunk 5th Edition (Posters)

My successful entry to the Totally Drunk 5th Edition - International Poster Contest 2016.

Bruno Munari in Design as Art outlines the Japanese Flag approach to poster design, where a disc is centrally positioned on a poster. He proposes that the disc shape is hard for the eye to escape from “A circle has no corners, and the eye is forced to go round and round until it tears itself away with an effort.” Second of all he discusses the idea of a Poster without End “It is therefore in certain cases possible to design posters on the same lines as wallpaper, posters with no set limits, that can be pasted up on a wall by the dozen to form one great poster of any size you like ”

So I combined both approaches in this design while adding an additional opportunity for experimentation in placement. The disc is an inversion of the background and each poster is an inversion of the other. So posters could be placed in a multitude of patterns (basic examples include chequerboard, rows, columns). However the more posters used the more opportunities there are for patterns. Each poster could even be thought of as a pixel on a screen.
