This poster was made entirely by hand. In addition to having to physically create the poster, I also had to include all of the text, as well as an image of the Egg Chair, a chair created by Danish designer Arne Jacobsen. All of the imagery is cut out from the sheet of black, which is overlaid onto the sheet of text behind it.
These posters were made entirely out of simple shapes. I used squares, triangles, circles, half circles, and lines to create the composition and typeface. Again, the text and image of the Egg Chair were all required for this set of posters. The design reflects the name of the chair, as well as its organic and naturalistic design. The bird was also added for scale, in order to show how bold and iconic this almost 50 year old chair still is today.
These posters were designed to advertise the Kunsthal Rotterdam, a museum in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The first poster was designed using iconic imagery from the interior of the museum. The colorful shapes at the bottom represent the rows of chairs in the auditorium, while the orange arrow and black stripes are both taken from elements of the museum's way finding.
The second poster was designed using a more abstract approach. The Kunsthal Rotterdam's mission is to attract as wide an audience as possible. When psychologists or marketers need to attract a wide audience for a survey, they often use direct mail, as it has the widest reach of any medium. Because of this, I decided to include all of the required information on a letter and envelope.
This poster was designed to highlight a specific exhibition at Kunsthal Rotterdam. The exhibition that I was assigned was titled The Swan of Rotterdam, which celebrated the 20th anniversary of Rotterdam's most iconic bridge.
