The people of Tarlabaşı

Tarlabaşı is a district, located in the center of the european side of Istanbul.
I lived there for five month and really felt in love with this area and the people.
The people Tarlabaşı have the most curious occupations. As part of a project at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, I took Photos of them with my analogue Camera.
It took me weeks to find out that it simply means »no« when turkish people do this.
There are a lot of syrian people in Tarlabaşı. These guys make the best falafel and hummus.
He is an turkish actor. He really is.
I don't know why but such barbers are missing in western europe.
Tarlabaşı has a lot of shops, which aren't bigger than 4 qm. He sold bulbs and cables.
This friendly guy cooked a lot of tea for me.
The children of Tarlabaşı still play outside.
Tavlamen I don't know what jobs they have, cause they're playing all day.
very sad about Tarlabaşı is, that huge Parts of it are a complete building lot for years now, cause the government tears down all the old houses, to build new ones and displace the poor people who used to live there.
Every sunday the biggest market with fresh food took place on Tarlabaşıs streets, I got almost everything I needed for one week there.
The rest I bought at Mustafas fruitshop – who taught me by the way the name of every single fruit and vegetable I bought there. I still remember most of them.
pictures like this you should better not take.
