Experimental Formats Pillow Book

A brief that shows us how to visually interpret a piece of text
Brief: How content is visually presented adds meaning, the designer’s roletherefore, is to interpret the author’s vision and package text in a format thatconnects with the content, adds visual intrigue, entertains and enhances thereader’s experience. You are therefore asked to select a piece of text or prosethat inspires or intrigues you. Then within the conventions of the printing andproduction processes, present the text in a challenging and experimental formatthat is derived from your interpretation of your chosen text.
Solution: I chose a poem called “The Night” by Gary R. Ferris. After readingthis poem I felt the author’s main emphasis was to show a person’s depressionduring the night after a break up. After some initial research and thumb nailingI decided to communicate this poem as a pillow. It’s relevant to the title and thewhole poem is about depressing thoughts at night. I choose a cold depressingblue for my cover. The pillow book is full scale and can still be used as a pillow.Upon completion I decided to go further and create typographic illustrationbased on each verse. The craft was very enjoyable and overall it works welland looks exactly as planned.
