An introductory 3rd year project that asked us to manipulate imagery in order to create a narrative.
My project is a circular narrative that focuses on ideas of childhood, loneliness and bittersweet nostalgia.
I wanted to distort the images in various ways to communicate difficulties in remembering. I use repeating imagery and highlight details which express how our memories often appear in pieces.
I wanted this project to have a 3D outcome in order to be able to distort the images through another plane.
I was inspired by puzzles and "build your own" toys with slots. It reflects the theme of my narrative.
Creating a puzzle-style outcome encourages play. I hope that this intensifies the feelings of nostalgia.
The pieces can be viewed alone or in combination.
The pieces can be viewed in groups or slotted into mismatched halves.
My favourite thing about this project is that they can be stacked. This creates interesting perspectives and new angles. Each time you create a new stack, you can see something you did not see before.
