Stone Bay /// extended field recording

Stone Bay /// extended field recording.

As part of my degree work i wanted to create a field recording piece from the sound in and around Stone Bay in Broadstairs, an amazing beach a few minutes walk from where i lived during my studies. However, i didn’t want the piece to be a simple field recording of the beach / sea area, as these are readily available and beginning to become a “relaxation tape” cliche.
Therefore, the piece is what i’m classifying as an “extended field recording”. An extended field recording consists of straight field recordings of the area, combined with further recordings utilising objects from the area. In this case contact microphone recordings of fences, posts and wires from the area played with a cello bow or struck and plucked. The end result is a more in-depth artistic interpretation of the sounds and vibrations of a location. Some post-processing has been added, mainly simple delays and some filtering.
(originally presented in 7.1 surround)
