Champaign Community Center
The program to create a Champaign Community Center is that which addresses the needs of Champaign today. The township of Champaign is that which is defined by its students, a population that indeed refreshes itself every four years. This inability to develop upon itself a stronger community occurs because of a lacking sense of community.
Let's make sense.
Solving this problem, the Champaign Community Center will strengthen the sense in community by creating a common icon sensible to Champaign, not the college. By giving identity, community will flourish.
The approach is simple. By taking a simple building and bringing it off grid, the mundane is taken away and an experience is formed. Pitched roofs create elevating moods and angled circulation around an open area which creates the opportunity to recognize the spaces between us and to ultimately initiate relationships that will build upon themselves.
