I/SPY
Interactive Pavilion for the University of Illinois
Interactive Pavilion for the University of Illinois
I / SPY is an interactive pavilion set in the midst of the quad, the University's most walked through area. The quad is often traveled through by a large influx of new students and visitors each year more often than not as a transitional area from point A to B. This pavilion acts as an interactive map to help people get to their destinations. By searching the name of their building on the walls, they would be introduced to a peep-hole position to view their destination. By requiring the person to not only orient themselves physically and also see the actual building, the viewer gains a full sense of direction.
The pavilion evolves the idea into design with more thought towards centralized foot traffic and mapping. The pavilion employs a lush grass exterior to become a significant yet unintruding object of its site. The pinwheel plan encourages entrance from all sides.
