Working in a group of seven we started with the key word environment and diverged on project ideas, converging on neighborhoods in Indianapolis we diverged on appropriate neighborhoods based upon group generated criteria. My group converged on the Holy Cross neighborhood located on the near east side of Downtown Indianapolis because of its improvement over the years. We began doing extensive research, by visiting the neighborhoods residents, businesses, and community events in order to identify problems or opportunities our team could focus on. Our group hosted a neighborhood association meeting in which we developed a set of research tools and strategies to generate data from the residents of Holy Cross. The team used the data we collected to develop solutions for the area, recognizing the need for social, economic, and beautification action in the community. In order to create this action in the community we developed the Plan Act kit that applied design thinking, and group decision making for the neighborhood association. The kit was designed to be simple and understandable, but also a powerful decision making tool for residence. We demonstrated the kit’s potential in a final presentation to the neighborhood association along with identified areas of growth within the community.
