On the 18th of September me and a friend of mine went on a photo journey that took us all over the 'Speicherstadt'. Our goal was to capture the beauty of the old warehouse district as well as the new 'HafenCity' by night.

The 'Speicherstadt' is an old and large warehouse district in Hamburg near the port. The interesting and quite beautiful aspect of the 'Speicherstadt' are all the red brick houses located right along the loading canals. The buildings where and are still used today to store goods like coffee, cocoa, spices and maritime equipment. Back in the day the loading canals where frequently used as a means to transport goods to and from the warehouses, which could be accessed from land and water.

In addition to the old Warehouse district with it's pretty canals, we visited the new 'HafenCity'. Located right next to the 'Speicherstadt', it's new and modern buildings stand in contrast with the old brick buildings. The new centerpiece, the 'Elbphilharmonie' is surrounded by water on three sides. It is build on top of an old brick warehouse and combines both old and modern architectural styles.
