A FLOWER HAS BLOSSOMED

While undertaking an internship with The Salvage Press in Dublin, Ireland, I began to work on my own publication. This publication was a book entirely printed on a letterpress.

This book is based on the poetry of William Butler Yeats. It has been designed, illustrated, hand-typeset and letterpress printed at the Distillers Press, National College of Art and Design, Dublin. The four illustrations have been hand-cut and printed from the original linoleum blocks. Both, the poems and illustrations follow an order. From his first poem to his last, from an illustration of Yeats as a child to an old man. The baby image is an interpretation of a sketch by John Butler Yeats, who drew his young sleeping son.

The book has been printed on a FAG Swiss Proof 40. The paper is Zerkall 170 gsm mould made. The type is set in 14 point Monotype Garamond 156. Monotype's version of this seminal face is based on original design by Claude Garamond (1480-1561).

This book has been printed in a limited edition of 30 copies. 1 - 10 constitute the de luxe edition and are quarter bound and presented in slipcases (gold). Standard copies are numbered 11 - 30 and are quarter bound in cloth with letterpress printed sides (silver). There are also four artist's proofs marked A - D which remain hors de commerce.

Thank you,
Pavels Lavrinovics.
