Body Boarders

Body Boarders is an expression in which to visually display the disconnect that we are allowing while looking at the disposable body within the growing global market. Throughout the Americas we are experiencing a gross neglect on issues of human rights specifically while looking to boarder cities where the capitalist agenda has reaped benefits in female exploitation.

The act of boarding the body is representational of cutting the body into sections; by cutting down the body I aim to reflect on the growing body count of missing and murdered women being disposed of. Regionally there are many “reasons” for the femicide phenomenon. This is not a regional issue, it is a growing issue hemispherically and globally with complicated dynamics of cultural fetishism and sexualized stereotypes (as they pertain to victimizing women and subjecting them to sexual violence). Specifically, marginalizing women and public policies enforcing the sex trade within indigenous groups, issues of domestic violence, femicide as well as how other personal, situational and sociocultural factors contributes to gender-based violence. By understanding these issues, societal destructive tendencies and inequalities there can be hope in finding a collective voice or representation across the hemisphere. These issues can be combated by enhancing attention to uniting women of indigenous and non-indigenous background and the need to fight as a cohesive group.
