A Respond to D&AD 2011/2012 Illustration Brief
The brief was to create a cover illustration for the "Little White Lies" magazine, of which the movie choices are the year's top 5 films; 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy', 'Super 8', 'Black Swan', 'The Tree of Life' and 'Drive'. I have decided to go for 'The Tree of Life', starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Jessica Chastain and Hunter McCracken. It is a one of a kind movie in which there are no main characters, each four of them are telling stories together, all at once. I felt that the cover should have all the characters in instead of just one because the movie is not focusing on only one but four of them. And so I came to an idea of illustrating all the characters, each of a style and colors which reflects their own unique identity and journey in the movie. All characters are hand drawn, scanned, colored and adjusted in Adobe Photoshop.
