In order to understand the best practices of typography and design, I was challenged to explore the creation of original letterforms.

The trials and errors of creating each letterform developed my eye’s ability see details within typography. Letter spacing familiarized me with new concepts. I learned that diagonals and open spacing in letters such as "E" and "A" would be spaced closer with the surrounding letters in order to make the open space around the letter feel less wide in relation to letter spacing between the "H" and "E".

One-by-one, I sketched/painted options of each letter to get a sense of how it looked in relation to the other letterforms. Then, I created each letterform in Adobe Illustrator. I kept in mind spacing and legibility.
