Grimms Fairy Tales
For this brief I had to re-design the book cover for the well established and very popular childrens book, Grimms Fairy Tales. I wanted to make it feel like the book was coming alive and that the stories were being revealed with the pages of the book. For this to work I cut up a book to reveal images that were used frequently in the stories, such as the trees, and made them feel like they were growing out of the book.
As some of the stories within the book are quite scary for children I wanted this to come across in the cover image. By shining a light onto the cutout pages gave a striking shadow. This not only gave the book depth but made it feel quite eery and scary.
I felt that using a subtle shadow for the back of this poster made it look 3D like you could almost pick the book up off it.
