Surfing Magazine; Chris Bickford's After the Storm
This project was an introduction to multipage layout. The student selected a topic and an existing article to use as the copy. I wanted my topic to be something that would challenge what was relevant to me and force me out of my comfort zone. After exploring options, a magazine was selected that would most likely feature the article. The student found high-resolution images to incorporate into the layout, which had to be at least 2 spreads.
I found a photo-story by Chris Bickford, entitled "After the Storm," which is an excellent read with beautiful black and white photography about the surfing culture on the Outer Banks of NC. I used this as my feature story, calling it "Life on a Sandbar." I had to narrow down which pictures to use, which was difficult because they were all so awesome.
