Neo-Fanfare 9x13
Logo design for an unique music ensemble
Neo-Fanfare 9x13 makes musical theatre without words, a new form of music based on the Dutch "fanfare" (marching band) tradition. This group of cool musicians asked our studio to design a logo for them. A straight forward question, but how to capture "neo-fanfare 9x13" in one image? And how do you translate their question to make it playful, abstract, eye-catching and artistic?

Color analyses of the live-performance and keywords
Important for us - as a starting point - was to look at the live-performance of the 9x13 ensemble and the way they dress. Characteristic are the colorful outfits with all the fine details like the aiguillettes and epaulettes. We translated the 9x13 in Roman numerals (IX x XIII) and turned them 90° degrees clockwise. Therefore creating the reference to the classical fanfare jacket.
The result is a playful logo that can be used in minimalistic black & white as well as in the bright colors of 9x13. As a start the new identity is used for their merchandise, animations and on the big drum!
