Parts of Your World. 2015.
Published in MTSU's Collage Magazine (Spring 2016 Issue).
During my first semester at MTSU I took a photography course called Still Digital Imaging, which mostly involved exploring the different photo editing tools of Adobe Photoshop. Our final project was to pick an iconic image and recreate it by scanning found objects in sections.
What a better iconic image to use than that of my favorite Disney princess?
Her hair is made of glitter, a necklace, some spare red beads, and other various bits and pieces. The froth of the waves and her skin are both made of the same material (coffee filters), which relates back to the original fairy tale in which the little mermaid is turned into sea-foam when she kills herself (not included in the Disney film!!!) The rock she perches on is formed from various knick knacks I pulled out of my drawer of "random crafting items," which I intended to be a symbol of Princess Ariel's hoarding tendencies. Of course, a portrait of Ariel just wouldn't be complete without some "dinglehoppers." I'd also like to note that I opted not to recreate her gorgeous big eyes for this piece in order to represent how, in this moment of the film, she is blinded by her love and curiosity towards the tall, dark, and handsome Prince Eric. To wrap everything together, I titled my project with a play on the very words she is belting out in this scene, "Part of Your World."
