Malszeit, ger. neologism: Mals, Zeit, Mahlzeit
Meaning: Mahlzeit = enjoy the food; Mals-Zeit = taking time for Mals.

The Malszeit is a participatory event placed in Mals, a small village in South Tyrol that is split into two parties after a petition against the use of pesticides in agriculture.
The event aimed at re-connecting producers and gastronomy of Mals and enabling future collaboration.

Through the topic of agricultural products a neutral setting was created. Each participant donated a free choice of products that were then combined to a unique menu by a cook. Like this the focus was shifted from a social problem to a shared meal.

To visualize the potential of collaboration an interactive mapping was framing the event: By presenting the dishes and ingredients and linking them to the producers the network and synergies were made visible.

The focus of the project lies in exploring the possibilites of social design within the frame of event and graphic design.
