Srishti Collective 2014

This initiative was part of the Srishti Collective 2014. Every year the graduating batch gets to showcase their work at the end of their institutional tenure through a full scale exhibition called the Srishti Collective. The exhibition displays student projects across various genres under distinct courses. The aim of this initiative was to document the processes followed by each course, and visually depict them through a universal illustrative language.
A brief understanding of the processes was acquired through conversations with each project head, and later broken down and refined as mind maps. Most courses followed linear processes with few demonstrating experimental outlooks.
For simplification purposes, the seventeen courses were clubbed under 4 clusters.
The courses were assigned to a cluster based on their definitive aspects.
In order to depict the diverse projects under a singular visual language, an organic plant-like form was
chosen to demonstrate the accumulative nature of the processes.
Similar to the growth of a plant, the linear processes are depicted across the ascending forms around a central stem.
As project processes were translated into the organic forms, the diverse steps were attributed as distinct features. As the central stem ascends, the thickness increases through the roots connecting into the the central step. With the roots symbolizing the various steps followed through the processes, the increase of thickness in the central stem signifies the cumulative understanding and the ever growing knowledge bank of the students. Certain other features are annotated below.
The globular nodes, symbolizing the final outcomes of the courses, were experimented with in order to create distinctions between the 4 clusters.
* The visual language followed for the cluster "Designing for New Opportunities" was designed by Medha Mistry. Due to the corporate nature of this cluster, the original process map artworks were translated into the new visual language for the exhibition.
The process maps were used in 2 forms at the Srishti Collective 2014. They were printed on 6" x 3" flex sheets to be hung at project enclosures, and translated into takeaway collateral for audiences.
